CMA Ontario employees give it their fundraising all for United Way Toronto

With enthusiasm and dedication, the Certified Management Accountants of Ontario (CMA Ontario) gave it their all this year, holding a successful United Way Toronto fundraising campaign. With a near 100% participation rate, CMA Ontario employees exceeded their original goal of $42,000, raising $42,250.

“We’ve been conducting United Way fundraising activities for a while now. It’s very much a part of the culture here at CMA Ontario, and everyone gets involved in one way or another,” explains Matthew Payne, who acted as Executive Campaign Co-Chair along with Stephen Coyle.

This year’s signature event, CMA Factor, showcased the hidden talents of the staff, with singers, dancers and even a comedy act. Staff members were invited to pledge money toward their favourite act, with the performer raising the most money being declared the winner.

“It’s the first year that we’ve run this particular event, and one of our most successful both financially and from audience reception,” says Matthew.

CMA Factor was but one of many fun and exciting events held by the Committee during each day of the organization’s three-week fundraising campaign. Old favourites included raffles, 50/50 draws and CMA’s favourite part, the silent auction. CMA United Way members hit the streets early in September to start gathering items for the sale that included wine chillers, gift certificates to local restaurants and hotels, a week’s free stay in a luxurious private home in Florida and a one hour piloted flight over Toronto. Plus, employees took part in a recipe book sale, bingo and penny wars.

A new event this year was the Carnival Putt and Scavenger Hunt. The most unique offering on CMA Ontario’s event calendar, however, had to be the Reflexology sessions offered by the organization’s receptionist, who is trained in the practice.

CMA Ontario has also received its first Spirit Award nomination in the category ‘Ambassador Team Spirit Award’ — good luck and thank you again for your support.
