Janssen 5K Walk/Run

The first-ever Janssen 5K Walk/Run a success, seeing employees raise $15, 448 for our community

Janssen employees take part in the 2011 Janssen 5K Walk/Run despite the rain.

On the morning of Thursday, September 29, 2011, along with their president, 122 Janssen employees—representing almost a third of the company—set out in the light rain to conquer five kilometers for United Way Toronto in the first-ever Janssen 5K Walk/Run. The event raised an impressive $15,448 for our community, helping United Way Toronto come closer to achieving this year’s fundraising goal of $116-million.

The route started and finished at Janssen’s office, taking the mix of runners and walkers through Moccasin Trail Park. The 5K Walk/Run was well marshaled by 20 volunteers, who were on hand to provide first-aid and support when needed. Every employee had his or her time recorded, giving them a goal to beat next year. Participants ran in teams, each one symbolically representing one of the 13 Priority Neighbourhoods.

As part of the Janssen 5K Walk/Run, prizes were awarded to several employees in various categories, including for best first, second and third male and female run times. The overall race was won by Stephanie Summers, with an impressive time of 19 minutes and six seconds. The prize for best costume went to the Scarborough Village People team and the top fundraiser honours went to Jana Gallagher, who raised $1,540.

With this first 5K Walk/Run being a great success for Janssen, we wish employees the same for their future events. Thank you for your support Janssen!
