GenNext Ambassador Training — Thursday, July 12, 2012
On July 12, 2012, our GenNext Ambassadors gathered for our annual training session. Attendees had a chance to meet other Ambassadors from workplaces across the city, listened to a panel discussion with some of our longest-running Ambassador groups, and engaged in one-on-one question time with the Ambassadors. It was a great opportunity to exchange ideas and information.
Thanks to PwC for their generous support of this event in providing the space and refreshments.
This was an invitation-only event for our GenNext Ambassadors. Are you interested in learning more about our Ambassador Network? Visit the Ambassador Network webpage and feel free to get in touch!
GenNext Education Session: Non-profit Board Governance — June 21, 2012
On June 21, 2012, a group of GenNexters gathered to learn about what it means to be a member of a non-profit board. For this event we brought together a number of experts and those with personal experiences to share about board leadership.
Altruvest Charitable Services, which runs the BoardMatch Leaders training seminars, presented some fundamentals of being a board member, as well as having one of their own board members share his experience.
We also had a panel of GenNexters who currently sit on boards to talk about what it means to be a younger board member, how they achieved their positions and what it’s like to serve on a board.
Finally, we were lucky to have several United Way Toronto member agencies in attendance that were looking for new board and committee members. GenNexters got the opportunity to them and learn about some openings and opportunities.
Thanks to KPMG for their generous support by providing their space for this event.

GenNext Leaders Event — Tuesday, May 15, 2012
On Tuesday, May 15, 2012, over 40 young philanthropists gathered at Bloke & 4th to mix and mingle, and to listen to two very inspiring speakers: Raj Kothari, PwC’s Managing Partner, Greater Toronto Area, and Lekan Olawoye, Executive Director of United Way Toronto member agency For Youth Initiative.
GenNext Leaders are donors who give $1,000 or more to United Way Toronto on an annual basis, and this event was a chance to introduce a few of them to each other, and to the ways they can get involved in the community. Please visit our GenNext Leaders page for more information about our programs and activities for this group of donors.
Thanks to all who came out and to everyone at Bloke & 4th for their generous support.

United Way GenNext was proud to once again be a community partner in Framework’s 9th annual Timeraiser event on March 24, 2012. For those of you who are not familiar with Timeraiser, it’s part silent art auction, part volunteer fair and part night on the town. You have the chance to meet with non-profit organizations, learn about their volunteer opportunities and bid on artwork by emerging local artists with your volunteer hours instead of your money.
This year’s Timeraiser was another great night at the Distillery District that broke all previous records by raising over 11,000 volunteer hours. Thanks to everyone who came out and congratulations to those who won art — we wish you luck with your volunteer pledges.
GenNext Holiday Day of Caring — December 15, 2011
On December 15, 2011, a group of GenNexters assisted Central Neighbourhood House with their annual Holiday potluck dinner for their clients. Over 100 parents and children were in attendance. GenNexters helped to set up the gym and with serving food to the attendees. They also assisted with children’s arts and craft activities, including making holiday cards. The highlight of the event was the arrival of Santa Claus, which had all the children very excited! Following the event, GenNexters also assisted with clean-up duties. The event was a great success. Thank you to all the GenNexters who volunteered their time and stay tuned for more GenNext Day of Caring activities in the coming months.
Held on November 10, 2011, GenNext’s signature event Rouge was a celebration of our successes and of the great support that GenNexters provide to United Way Toronto. Held at the fabulous The Fifth Social Club (225 Richmond Street West), guests enjoyed live music, entertainment and auctions. Each year, we strive to make it an event to remember, and this year was no exception! We hosted over 500 guests and raised almost $50,000 for United Way Toronto’s Community Fund. Thank you to everyone who attended. To learn more about the event, visit unitedwaytoronto.com/rouge.
GenNext was proud to be a community partner in this networking event for the third year in a row. FastLane in the Community was an opportunity for GenNexters to meet each other and to meet organizations that they could get involved in the community with. Over 100 young professionals gathered at Kultura to participate in a speed-networking session, meet other likeminded individuals and connect with community-based organizations like ours.
