At United Way Toronto, we’re working to create opportunities for a better life for everyone
Our work is based on a simple but profound belief—what unites us is ultimately far more powerful than what divides us. When you support United Way Toronto, your gift goes directly to our Community Fund, which supports strategies aimed at improving the social conditions in our city. In the short term, we do this by meeting immediate needs—helping individuals when they need it most, and in the long term by addressing the root causes of social problems through a systemic approach that works to change whole communities. By supporting a network of member agencies, at United Way Toronto we focus our efforts on the three main areas that are essential to creating opportunities for a good life. These include helping people move from poverty to possibility, building healthy people and strong communities, and helping kids be all they can be.

Each day, in every corner of our city, we’re working with frontline agencies, community partners, the private sector, and all levels of government to ensure people have access to help when they need it most. Our Community Fund provides stability to community agencies and strengthens their capacity to serve our city—both today and into the future.
We’re working to address the root causes of social problems
United Way Toronto’s long-term strategies work to create lasting changes that will improve whole communities by targeting the conditions that lead to social challenges—to get at issues before they become problems in the first place. Our goal is to fulfill long-term needs and create lasting change. This means going beyond helping one person at a time—it’s about changing systems to make things better for all of us. This approach is based on evidence and ongoing research, and it’s promoted through advocacy aimed at influencing public attitudes and government policies.
We bring people together from all walks of life to build a better city
At United Way Toronto, we believe it takes everyone working together to change social conditions. We engage the entire community, bringing together people from all walks of life in a common purpose. We work to build an understanding of our city’s challenges—and then mobilize people, ideas and resources to achieve our shared aspirations. Together, we’re building a better future for everyone by connecting governments, the private sector and individual donors with the community—we’re working in partnership to address our city’s social problems.
